Half Moon Bay Golf CoursesThe mild and sunny climate of Half Moon Bay, California makes it a great destination for a variety of outdoor activities. One of the most popular outings for guests of Mill Rose Inn to partake in is golf.  Half Moon Bay Golf Links is home to two world-class courses that will satisfy the needs of even the most experienced golfer.  If you want to hit the fairways during your time with us, be sure to check out these Half Moon Bay courses.

The Ocean Course

As its name suggests, the Ocean Course has beautiful views of the Pacific ocean on each hole.  It’s position at the top of an ocean bluff makes for these sensational views and the final four holes are famed as some of the best in the game. Not only one of the best Half Moon Bay courses, the Ocean Course has been named among the best courses in California. The course opened in 1997 after being designed by famed landscape architect Arthur Hills.  The Ocean Course features a traditional Scottish “links style” format.  The fairways on the course are described as “firm and fast” with wispy natural grasses and trees along the edges of the course.  The par 72, 18-hole course plays at 6,914 yards from the furthest tee.  The tee boxes are formed by Rye Grass and the fairways, rough and greens are Perrnnial Poa Annual.

The Old Course

The Old Course was designed by legendary golfer Arnold Palmer along with Francis Duane and opened 1973.  Palmer is not only known for his excellent game, but he has designed some of the best courses in golf.  In 1990 Arthur Hills gave the course an update, so some of the greatest minds in course design have had input in the development of the Old Course. The course features a classic American parkland links layout.  The design makes for corridor views of the Pacific ocean.  The par 72, 18-hole championship course plays at 7,001 yards from the furthest tee.  Notable among Half Moon Bay golf courses as well as courses worldwide, the Old Course has one of the most recognized holes in the world. The 18th hole is a 405-yard par four hole that brings players to a bluff providing amazing views of the coast.  You may have seen this course on television, due to the fact that it has hosted a variety of professional tournaments including U.S. Open Qualifiers.

Practice Facility

Along with the two courses, Half Moon Bay Golf Links is also home to a wonderful practice facility, so you can get your game up to par. The 4-acre oceanfront short-game facility has two pitching greens, a practice bunker, a putting green and several pitching tees.  The views from the practice facility are just as breathtaking as those from the course.
